Sam considers himself fortunate to bring together his love of nature, structured landscapes, and community into his daily work. His experience has been shaped through an unconventional route into the industry — starting out on the tools with limited qualifications, leaning on mentorship, and learning through doing. That journey fuels his passion for supporting others who take less traditional paths, proving there’s no single way to thrive in this sector or to make an impact.
Eldest of five, Sam is used to life being anything but quiet. With a revolving door of family who share both a love of the outdoors and careers in the sector, there’s always a cocktail of fun, debate, and idea-sharing at home.

His kitchen and a well-stocked cupboard of ingredients. A real-life Ready Steady Cook type chef, he loves creating meals from whatever’s to hand.
Favourite tree/plant:
Always evolving as he learns; right now it’s Malus (apple tree), thanks to a summer of juicing, baking, and teaching his daughters the value of sustainable food growing.
